Philipp Ladwig is a Ph.D. candidate at MIREVI (Mixed Reality and Visualization) at the University of Applied Sciences in Duesseldorf. He finished his Bachelor of Engineering in 2014 with the thesis "Immersive 3D modelling of complex shapes in the seismic interpretation" at the Fraunhofer IAIS in Bonn. In 2018 he were graduated with a masters degree in Media Informatics. The title of the thesis is "Advantages and Limitations of Immersive 3D Polygonal Mesh Modelling in Virtual Reality".

After researching for years in the field of "Immersive 3D Modelling" and "Spatial User Interaction", he developed a keen interest to connect multiple users within his modelling application. Today, his main research field is "Remote Collaboration" and "Augmented Telepresence", since he discovered the lack of transmitting empathy between people in Virtual Reality. Facial as well as gestural expression can not be transmitted in a detailed manner with the current technology and lead to downgrading the mutual social presence of the collaborators. He investigates new ways of recognizing and transmitting "empathy data" between distrubuted Virtual Environments.
