After three years of project MODINA – Movement, Digital Intelligence and Interactive Audience, the EU-funded project reached its finale in a three-day programme in Düsseldorf this January. The event included four artist showings, an exhibition, a symposium and a network gathering.
Friday, 23rd of January
On Friday afternoon, the MIREVI team welcomed the MODINA artists and partners from all over Europe in the hive lab. After a short greeting by Professor Chris Geiger, they were met with hot drinks and a variety of projects to explore, such as Sylybo, Zeitzeugen NRW and persona fractalis II.

In the evening, our guests moved to project partner tanzhaus nrw for a quick dinner, the opening of the MODINA exhibition and the first performance of the weekend, This is Unreal by Liz Santoro and Pierre Godard.

Saturday, 24rd of January
On the second day, the MODINA Symposium Dancing in the Digital Age: Bodies, Codes, and Affective Futures was held at LAVAstudio, dedicating the day to public reflection and discussion. The symposium opened with Dr. Einav Katan-Schmid presenting Affectos Digitalos: Artificial and Embodied Reflections on Ethics and the Digital Reproduction of Feelings, an exploration of embodied knowledge and dance philosophy and artificial intelligence while addressing ethics, affect and co-presence in human-machine-interaction. In the afternoon, Clémence Debaig presented Dancing with the Machines: Creative Agency, Human Connection and Tech Politics. The talk examines the intersection of dance and digital technologies, exploring both technical realities and the ethical implications of working with platforms we do not control.
Both keynotes were followed by panel discussions of the first- and second- year MODINA artists respectively, connecting theoretical insights with concrete artistic experience during their residencies. The documented livestream is available here

In the evening, Charlotte Triebus presented her latest piece as a lecture performance Precious Camouflage: The Code – an artistic commentary on bodies, artificial intelligence, and the politics of the visible. Using a single LED screen and two dancers reduced the complexity with no detriment to the effect of the piece.

SUNDAY 25rd of January
The final day was dedicated to networking and reflection. The participating artists and partners met again to reflect on their process during the three-year residency, sharing and reflecting on experience, artistic and organisation process and organisational knowledge.
