Each day focuses on a distinct mode of engagement — showing, thinking, and connecting — reflecting MODINA’s core commitment to collaboration between dance artists, creative technologists, academic institutions, and audiences:

23 January 2026 — MODINA Exhibition: Emerging Bodies, Emerging Systems @tanzhaus nrw

The MODINA Exhibition presents some of the works created during the project alongside related projects from MIREVI and associated artists. The exhibition highlights innovative approaches to the intersection of movement, digital intelligence, and interactive systems. Visitors are invited to encounter dance beyond the traditional stage — as data, interface, environment, and embodied interaction. Additionally, the exhibition will present video documentation capturing the creative processes and outcomes of ten MODINA Residencies, offering insight into the artists’ development throughout the project.

Rather than a retrospective, the exhibition emphasizes ongoing questions raised during the project:
How does technology reshape choreographic thinking?
How can digital systems become collaborators rather than tools?
How might audiences encounter movement through augmented, hybrid, or interactive formats?

24 January 2026 — MODINA Symposium — Dancing in the Digital Age: Bodies, Codes, and Affective Futures @LAVAstudio

The second day is dedicated to public reflection and discussion, inspired by three keynote lectures.

The Symposium opens with Dr. Einav Katan-Schmid presenting “Affectos Digitalos: Artificial and Embodied Reflections on Ethics and the Digital Reproduction of Feelings”, exploring how embodied knowledge and dance philosophy engage with AI, and addressing questions of ethics, affect, and co-presence in human–machine interaction. She is followed by Jens Heitjohann, presenting “Exploring Spheres beyond the binary system (AT)”, highlighting curatorial approaches on artistic works that explore technologies beyond Eurocentric knowledge systems. These morning sessions set the stage for an open panel discussion, offering space for philosophical and theoretical reflection with the participating artists.

In the afternoon, Clémence Debaig will present “Dancing with the Machines: Creative Agency, Human Connection and Tech Politics”, examines how dance practice intersects with digital technologies, exploring both the technical realities and the ethical implications of working with platforms we do not control. Her keynote will be followed by a second panel discussion, connecting theoretical insights to concrete technological approaches and artistic experimentation.

The day concludes with a lecture performance “Precious Camouflage: The Code – an artistic commentary on bodies, artificial intelligence, and the politics of the visible” by Charlotte Triebus, presented for the first time to an international audience.

Through keynotes, the lecture performance, and open panel discussions with MODINA artists and partners, the symposium addresses critical questions around ethics, power, affect, and responsibility in technologically mediated dance practices. Designed as a shared thinking space rather than a traditional conference, it provides a platform where artistic practice and theoretical reflection intersect, opening MODINA’s insights to a broad community of dance-makers, creative coders, researchers, and audiences.

Attendance is free, but registration is required via Eventbrite
The detailed programme and schedule are available on the Eventbrite site.

25 January 2026 — MODINA Network Gathering (internal event) @tanzhaus nrw

The final day is dedicated to an internal network meeting for MODINA project partners and participating artists. This gathering provides a space to reflect on collaborative processes developed over the three-year project, share experiences across institutions and artistic practices, and explore potential directions beyond MODINA’s formal duration. The focus is on sustaining relationships, knowledge exchange, and identifying opportunities for future collaboration.

Across the three days, tanzhaus nrw will host four artist duos presenting their works developed during their MODINA Residencies:

Nino by Gibson & Martelli
This is Unreal by Liz Santoro & Pierre Godard
Still Moving by Liis Vares & Taavet Jansen
Baby by Hollow

MODINA is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
